Following on the success of General Motor's "ONSTAR" ©, Datalink Systems present the next generation of "on-line" vehicle/passenger security systems. There are many forms and choices of vehicle theft protection. Simplest is the steering wheel lock, easily defeated by the professional thief. Engine immobilizers are good, but they will not protect you or the contents of your vehicle. Intrusion and touch sensor alarms can be triggered accidentally and can be a noise nuisance. More importantly, none of them provide protection and "on-line" help for the occupants. Vguard does it all.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU
Vguard can be considered the premier protection system, as it protects both the car and the driver, and by using the latest GPS technology your car can can be tracked within seconds of a thief attempting to steal it.
GPS tracking technology ensures that your vehicle will have the best theft protection currently available.
Vguard uses GPS tracking satellites to pin-point the location of your vehicle if it is stolen, involved in an accident or if you call for "on-line" traveler services.
Automatic theft alert

A key feature of Vguard is the automatic triggering of a “theft alert” should thieves attempt to steal your vehicle. (requires connection to existing alarm system)
Using GPS signals, the Vguard computer can sense when the vehicle is moved when the theft alarm is triggered. When this happens the Vguard computer will send a signal to the 24 hour monitoring station. The monitoring station will track your vehicle on a digital map with GPS updates every 5 seconds, allowing Police to be directed to the location in minutes.
REMOTE ENGINE SHUT-OFF
Unique to Vguard is the ability for the security monitoring desk to shut off
the engine remotely should your car be stolen. This would normally be done under
the direction of the local Police
Department at a time when a Police Car has
been directed to the location of the stolen vehicle and when it is safe to do
so. This feature also enables the Police to apprehend the thieves.
THE EQUIPMENT AND HOW IT ALL WORKS

The Vguard control unit is very compact and is mounted in a hidden area of the vehicle.
An optional emergency button can be installed to summon help when required.
HOW IT ALL WORKS
To summon roadside assistance or Police/Ambulance the appropriate button must be pressed and held for a minimum of three seconds. This is to prevent accidental triggering or a child pressing a button out of curiosity. A short "beep" will indicate acceptance of the action. Assuming that the vehicle is within a Cellular network coverage area the signal will be sent to the Monitoring Desk. When the signal has been received by the Host computer at the Monitoring Desk.
The Vguard system is designed to work over the International GSM-GPRS networks. In order for you to receive voice support calls for the Monitoring and Help Desk you are required to have a separate cell-phone account with the carrier of your choice. Most people already have a cell-phone. The Monitoring desk will call your own cell-phone within a minute or two of a button being pressed to determine what assistance is required and will take further appropriate action and advise you.
The Vguard will also operate without the need for the driver to have a cell-phone, the service under these circumstances is limited to dispatching Police and/or ambulance or a Tow Truck depending on what button was pressed. A false-alarm trigger may result in fees for services that were not required.
GPS TRACKING AND PRIVACY
Vguard does not compromise your personal privacy. The only time that the true location of your vehicle is tracked is when the automatic theft protection has been triggered or when you have pressed an emergency button calling for assistance.

ON BOARD NAVIGATION
Vguard Premium also provides you with “on-board” navigation. Plug your Laptop or Pocket PC into the Vguard unit and you can see your exact location on the MicroSoft Digital Maps covering all of North America. Use it to locate the nearest hotel or restaurant and many other services. You will need a copy of Microsoft Streets & trips or autoroute 2004 and a standard RJ-45 telephone extension cable.

COMPANY DRIVER AND YOUNG DRIVER MONITORING
An optional "add on" is our G-Force module. Companies pay insurance rates on their vehicles based on the amount of accidents their drivers are involved in. Also, a young driver's monitoring module allows the insurance company to give a lower insurance premium based on safe driving. The G-Force module measures the level of G force when a vehicle is cornering, braking and accelerating. The module can be pre-set to allow up to 0.X G-force. Anything above that limit is recorded and sent to the company's computer DataBase or the the parents or Insurance companies DataBase.
YOUNG DRIVERS "FAMILY PLAN"
Many Insurance companies require a parent or guardian to underwrite Insurance coverage for young drivers. Under the family plan, cars that may be driven by young and inexperienced drivers can be set to automatically report when a set speed limit is exceeded. You can also poll the vehicle to find out its current location. Great when the young driver should be home and has not yet arrived.
A recent report in the Journal of the American Medical Association hi-lights the fact that 16 year old drivers are almost three times as likely to be involved in an accident when driving with three or more teenage friends than driving on their own.
Terror on wheels
The Journal of the American Medical Association recently reported that young teenage drivers are extremely dangerous on the roads and have horrendous safety records when compared to other age groups.
The data broke down as follows: the death rate for 16-year-old drivers is about two per one million trips with no passengers, 2.76 with one passenger, 3.69 with two passengers, and 5.61 with three or more passengers. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among North American teenagers.
Although it may be difficult or impossible to prevent the latter, the report does make a recommendation that could curb the former—a system of graduated licensing. And the author of this Drivers.com editorial agrees heartily: graduated licensing schemes are a great improvement on the old licensing systems—they are saving lives. Read the full article
With the family plan, you receive a Microsoft Mappoint digital map and computer program that allows you to locate your vehicles on the map at any time. The program also reports where the vehicles have exceeded the set speed limit with date and time.
Additional features of the "family plan" option.
You will be required to create a separate code number for young drivers. The young driver would use this code to allow the engine to be started. This particular code category records speeds in excess of the limit set by the parent or guardian on the Website. Excessive speeds are recorded by date/time and location. The special code also allows parents or guardians to poll the vehicle to obtain its current location.
The family plan is expected to be endorsed by most Insurance Companies, resulting in possible increased discounts.
